Prince Willem III wrote to the burgemeesters of Delft concerning the naming of new regents

In reponse to the Delft city council's lack of support for resisting the invasion, Willem III replaced half of the Veertigraad with regents loyal to his cause. Leeuwenhoek's friend Cornelis 's Gravesande was among the new regents.
