The original manuscript on four quarto pages, written and signed by Leeuwenhoek, is preserved at the Royal Society (MS. 1875. Early Letters L1.46).

Leeuwenhoek wrote this letter to Hooke, copying his whole Letter L-095 of 14 November 1679 to Velthuysen about gout and bladder stones. He added opening and closing paragraphs directed explicitly to Hooke.

This letter was not published during Leeuwenhoek's lifetime.
