Leeuwenhoek wrote this letter as a confirmation of the receipt of Waller's previous letter. He sent a volume of Latin translations of his letters, but from the Dutch it is unclear whether he sent it under cover of this letter or as a separate package.
He did not specify which Latin volume he sent, but the one published previously to this letter is Continuatio Epistolarum, published in 1689, which contained eight letters sent to the Royal Society in 1687.
