The original manuscript is not preserved at the Royal Society. It is known only by reference in Letter L-040.
Leeuwenhoek wrote this letter to Henry Oldenburg, but it is lost; it was not published and there is no manuscript. The enclosure to Robert Boyle, Letter L-039, is also lost.
Beginning of Letter L-040 of 9 October 1676:
My last letter to you was that of July 28th with enclosure to Mr. Boyle.
