Leeuwenhoek wrote this letter to acknowledgement of the receipt of Waller's Letter L-243 of 2 May 1694 (22 April 1694 O.S.) and recounted the visit of Mr Walford, who delivered it along with some issues of Philosophical Transactions. He also enclosed a copy of Vierde Vervolg der Brieven, which the Royal Society acknowledged as having received at the meeting on 27 June 1694 O.S.
