Brouncker was a Founder Fellow of the Royal Society in 1660 and president from 1662 to 1677, when Oldenburg died. Not knowing who else to send his letters to, Leeuwenhoek sent three in a row to Brouncker in late 1677. By the following year, he began sending to Hooke and Grew instead.
