Porcelain
Maria had a lot of what the Dutch called porcelyn, porcelain. What we now call porcelain was made exclusively in China until the mid-1700's, when Maria died. Thus, some of what she possessed was porcelain imported from Asia. The rest was pottery made from clay in Europe and coated with a tin-based glaze to make it impervious to water. Some of it, we would now call Delftware, though the phrase "Delf ware" did not enter the English language until the early 1800's, to be gradually replaced by "Delftware".
The inventory makes an attempt to group similar objects. The pages with the full list of inventory items are listed in order as they appeared in the inventory. None of the group names or item totals are in the original. However, in several places, the writer left a blank line, usually between larger groups; the sections below preserve those divisions.
Summary totals compared to her peer group of 20, including her. (Achter de Gevels 452).
