Other bonds

Five bonds (articles 12 - 16) near the beginning of the 1745 inventory were issued by the republic (Comptoire Generaal van de Unie in 's Gravenhage). They all were bought "in blanco", that is, without a person's name. They were all bearer bonds, so the name didn't matter. We don't know whether the Leeuwenhoeks were the original purchasers and if they weren't, what they paid for the bonds.

From them, the Leeuwenhoeks received 320 guilders per year. If they indeed were the original investors, they received these 320 guilders for 45 years. All together, these payments would have exceeded 14,000 guilders, an excellent return on the 8,000 guilders face value.

This group towards the end of the inventory of financial instruments include one share (article 61) of stock in the VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie. United East India Company). It was in Maria's name, so she received dividends for ___ years. See De Vries and Van der Woude p. 448 for the dividend rate.

The Leeuwenhoeks had three bonds (articles 62 - 64) issued by Delft's Weescamer, which managed Delft's perennial problem of providing for orphans. The city itself, authorized by the mayors, paid the interest.
