His family was involved in Delft's governance from the early 1400's.
Ewout joined the Veertigraad in 1681, served as Schepen in 1684 and 1685 and as Burgemeester in 1703, 1705, 1710, 1713, 1714, 1717, and 1718. In 1721, he retired from civic life at age 70.
When he died, three months before Leeuwenhoek, he lived on the Appelmarkt.
