Commanders in the whaling industry from the area of Maasmond and Lekstreek in the eighteenth century

Maasmond, or mouth of the Maas River, would have been downstream from Rotterdam. Lekstreek was an area on the Maas and its tributary the Ijssel just upstream from Rotterdam.

The family of Leeuwenhoek's friend Ijsak van Krimpen, if not Ijsak himself, was from Krimpen, in the Lekstreek.
