In this letter, Christiaan Huygens informs Leeuwenhoek that his observations of microbes in spice infusions were well received in France. Leeuwenhoek hopes to hear about the reaction to his observations about lice, and he promises to soon send more observations about microbes in infusions.

Letter L-051 of 15 February 1677 to Christiaan Huygens

I duly received your welcome letter of the 9th inst. I was glad to read that my observations were appreciated in France. If you should receive any comment on my last observations on the louse (which I learn from your father you intend to translate into French and to send to France) I beg you kindly to communicate it to me.

I shall wait two or three weeks before sending a further reply to your letter, as I intend to add two sorts of water to the observations which I have been making for some time past on living creatures in water. Amongst other things I intend to observe these two daily.
